Player Write Up

Calvin Sorensen | Class of 2027 | Grant High School | Portland, OR

Height/Weight: 6'0", 155 lbs.

Primary Position: MIF | Secondary Position: RHP | Bats/Throws: R/R

A 6’0” 2027 grad out of Grant High School in Portland Oregon. The athletic middle infielder flashes good range up the middle and a strong arm to make plays in the hole. Has a good understanding of getting around baseballs and putting himself in the best position to make plays. Changes arm angles well on double play balls and stays in and digs out balls from the catcher.

At the plate Calvin does his damage from the right side of the plate. He is an active high hands hitter who gets into his launch at the proper time to let his very quick hands take over. Flashes great power to the pull side of the field. Stays on plane and balanced through the swing and creates natural lift to the baseball.

On the mound Sorensen presents a very quiet and repeatable delivery. Keeps balls in the zone and mixes his pitches well. Uses his off-speed to send hitters back to the dugout. His fastball sits in the 70-72 range topping out at 73.

  • Jared McGowan (2024)

Calvin is athletic, big, and strong. He competes with real energy and intent. His presence suggests continued upside.

Defensively, he is comfortable in the middle infield. He shows a trustworthy glove, a confident backhand, and good reads on shallow flares. On the mound, he attacks from a three-quarters arm slot, fills the zone, and mixes pitches well. He shows poise and has the ability to induce fly-ball contact when ahead. His efficiency and strike throwing ability give coaches confidence.

In the box, he stands tall with a slightly closed front foot. He leverages his lower half and shows opposite-field pop. He hit multiple doubles that translate BP strength into in-game production.

On the bases, Calvin runs hard every 90. His hustle applies pressure on defenses.
